Our verdict
ThinkMarkets is a genuinely competitive raw-spread broker with an unusually broad regulatory footprint for its size: FCA 629628, ASIC AFSL 424700 and a JFSA registration are three top-tier licences, and the CySEC entity gives EU clients Investor Compensation Fund cover of EUR 20,000. ThinkZero at roughly 0.8 pips all-in on EUR/USD is priced against the cheapest firms in the category, roughly 3,260 instruments including 2,796 share CFDs and 324 ETF CFDs beat most CFD rivals on breadth, and the ThinkTrader mobile app is better than what several much larger brokers offer. Three things stop it scoring higher. The withdrawal experience draws persistent complaints on public review sites - repeated document requests on already-verified accounts and payments marked successful that clients say never arrived - and a USD 100 minimum withdrawal is an unnecessary friction on top. Dormancy costs money on the UK entity: after 180 consecutive days without a trade, TF Global Markets (UK) Ltd charges GBP 10 a month for as long as the balance stays positive. And the planned Toronto listing through FG Acquisition Corp never completed, so the transparency you would get from a public company is still absent. Strong on price and product, weaker on the parts of the relationship that only matter when you want your money back.

Pros & cons
Pros
7- ThinkZero all-in EUR/USD cost of about 0.8 pips - raw spreads from 0.0 pips plus USD 3.50 per lot per side on forex and metals
- Three top-tier licences - FCA 629628, ASIC AFSL 424700 and JFSA registration 0250 - alongside CySEC 215/13 and FSCA FSP 49835
- Roughly 3,260 instruments on ThinkMarkets' own contract table, including 2,796 share CFDs and 324 ETF CFDs, which is unusually broad for a CFD-only broker
- ThinkTrader mobile is a full trading client with proper charting, drawing tools and server-side alerts, and is consistently rated among the best mobile apps in the category
- No minimum deposit on the Standard account and no broker fee on deposits or withdrawals on the published methods
- Seven base currencies including CHF, AUD, SGD and NZD, which removes a conversion layer for clients outside the euro and dollar
- Copy trading through both the in-house ThinkCopy layer and the ZuluTrade network, plus MT4, MT5 and TradingView on the same account
Cons
6- 75 percent of ThinkMarkets UK retail accounts lose money trading CFDs, and disclosures across the group's entities have ranged from roughly 68 percent to 89 percent
- Withdrawals are the recurring complaint in public reviews: repeated document requests on already-verified accounts, multi-week delays, and disputed payments marked as successful. A USD 100 minimum withdrawal adds friction on top
- Dormancy is charged on the UK entity: GBP 10 per month from day 181 without a trade, for as long as the balance is positive. The CySEC, ASIC and offshore entities publish no comparable figure we could verify
- No published currency conversion rate, so the true cost of trading a US share CFD from a EUR or GBP account cannot be modelled before you trade
- The FG Acquisition Corp SPAC merger that would have listed the group in Toronto never completed, so there are no public accounts and no listed-company disclosure
- No listed options, no exchange-traded futures, no bonds, no funds and no share ownership - the entire book is contracts for difference

Full review: ThinkMarkets
Fees and what they actually cost
ThinkMarkets runs the standard two-tier CFD pricing model, and picking the wrong tier is the most expensive mistake available here.
ThinkZero strips the mark-up out of the spread and charges commission instead: raw spreads from 0.0 pips on EUR/USD, measured at around 0.11 pips as an average, plus USD 3.50 per standard lot per side on forex and metals. That is USD 7 round turn, worth roughly 0.7 pips on a one-lot EUR/USD trade, so the all-in cost lands at about 0.8 pips. That is competitive with the cheapest firms in the category, and the entry ticket is low: ThinkZero opens from USD 100.
Standard folds the commission into the spread: EUR/USD averages around 1.1 pips with nothing charged separately, and there is no minimum deposit. There is no break-even to reach: on forex and metals ThinkZero's 0.8 pips all-in beats Standard's 1.1 pips at any volume, and the gap widens with it. The only barrier is ThinkZero's USD 100 minimum deposit, against none on Standard.
Note what the commission does not cover. The USD 3.50 per side applies to forex and metals only. Share CFDs, ETF CFDs, indices, commodities and crypto CFDs are all commission-free and priced through the spread on both account types, which means the cost of a share CFD is whatever the ticket says it is at the moment you trade.
Deposits and withdrawals carry no broker fee on the published methods, with one exception: PayPal deposits in Australia cost 2.5 percent. The minimum withdrawal is USD 100, which is a genuine annoyance on a small account.
Dormancy has a price on the UK entity. TF Global Markets (UK) Ltd treats an account as dormant after 180 consecutive calendar days without trading activity and charges GBP 10 per month from day 181. It applies only while the balance is positive, you are told before the first charge lands, and it stops at a zero balance or on an account you have asked to have deactivated. The CySEC, ASIC and offshore entities do not publish an equivalent figure we could verify, so read the schedule attached to the entity in your client agreement. One gap in the published schedule remains: ThinkMarkets does not publish a headline currency conversion percentage, so trading US names out of a EUR account has a cost you cannot model in advance.
Safety and regulation
Six licences across four continents, and which one applies to you depends entirely on where you live.
- TF Global Markets (UK) Ltd, trading as ThinkMarkets - FCA firm reference 629628. UK clients are covered by the FSCS up to GBP 85,000 per eligible claimant if the firm fails. This is also the entity whose disclosure states that 75 percent of its retail accounts lose money.
- TF Global Markets (Aust) Pty Ltd - ASIC, AFSL 424700. The founding entity, licensed since the group began in Melbourne in 2010. Australia has no statutory compensation scheme for broker failure, so the ASIC licence buys you conduct supervision, not a payout.
- ThinkMarkets Japan K.K. - registered with Japan's Financial Services Agency under number 0250 through the Kanto Local Finance Bureau. Japanese rules impose the tightest leverage caps in the group.
- TF Global Markets (Europe) Ltd - CySEC 215/13, licensed since 20 September 2013. This is where German, Austrian and most other EU clients contract, with Investor Compensation Fund cover of 90 percent of a covered claim up to EUR 20,000.
- TF Global Markets South Africa (Pty) Ltd - FSCA FSP 49835, authorised since February 2019.
- TF Global Markets Int'l Ltd - Seychelles FSA SD060. The offshore entity, and where the highest leverage lives.
The group also lists registrations in the Cayman Islands, Mauritius and the UAE. We do not publish licence numbers for those because we could not verify them from a primary source.
Client money is held in segregated accounts and retail clients in the regulated jurisdictions get negative balance protection. What is missing is public-company transparency. ThinkMarkets agreed a reverse merger with FG Acquisition Corp in 2023 that would have listed the group on the Toronto Stock Exchange as ThinkMarkets Group Holdings Limited. Shareholders approved it, the preliminary prospectus was later withdrawn, deadlines were extended, and the listing never happened. The group remains privately held with no published accounts. That is not a scandal, but it is a gap: you get regulatory oversight instead of audited public disclosure. No licence makes any broker risk-free.
Trading platforms
ThinkMarkets bought its way to a good platform and it shows. ThinkTrader is built on the Trade Interceptor engine the group acquired in 2018, and unlike most in-house CFD platforms it was designed mobile-first.
ThinkTrader mobile is the standout. Full charting with more than a hundred indicators, complete drawing tools, multi-chart layouts, and server-side price alerts that keep firing after you close the app - a detail most brokers get wrong. It is a trading client, not a position-checker, and it is repeatedly named among the best mobile trading apps in the CFD category. If you make decisions on a phone, this is a genuine reason to open an account here.
ThinkTrader web and desktop carry the same engine with more screen. Charting is strong, the order ticket is clean, and account administration sits in the same interface. It is not as deep as a professional terminal - there is no full Level II depth of market across the book - but it covers what a discretionary trader needs.
MetaTrader 4 and 5 carry the automation load and, importantly, ThinkZero pricing. If your edge is an expert advisor, this is where you run it, and it is where the raw-spread cost advantage is available.
TradingView integration lets you route orders from TradingView charts depending on account type.
Copy trading runs two ways: the in-house ThinkCopy layer and the ZuluTrade network. Both let you mirror another trader's positions. Neither turns a bad strategy into a good one, and signal-provider quality varies enormously, so treat published track records as marketing until you have checked drawdown as well as return.
What is missing is institutional API access. Automation here means MetaTrader, not FIX connectivity from your own infrastructure.
Markets and products
ThinkMarkets advertises "up to 4,000 instruments", and that ceiling belongs to one account: its own account-types page specifies 4,000 for ThinkTrader, and 350 (MT4) / 1,800 (MT5) for Standard and ThinkZero — the raw-spread account this review recommends. The complete contract-specifications table lists roughly 3,260 instruments across every account. That still makes ThinkMarkets one of the broader CFD-only brokers rather than a pure FX shop, but the headline is a ceiling on one platform, not a floor across all of them.
- Forex - roughly 46 pairs across majors, minors and exotics, and where ThinkZero pricing is sharpest.
- Share CFDs - around 2,700 underlying shares from the US, UK, Europe and Australia. That is more than twice what several direct competitors list, and the main reason the product range scores well here.
- ETF CFDs - 321 of them, which is a genuinely unusual number in this category. Priced through the spread like shares.
- Indices - 19 global benchmarks, commission-free.
- Commodities - 9 markets across energy and metals; ThinkMarkets' own contract table lists no soft commodities at all. This is the thin part of the shelf; a commodity-focused trader will find rivals with three times the list.
- Crypto CFDs - 19 instruments, subject to entity. FCA rules block UK retail access to crypto derivatives entirely.
- Metals - covered by the ThinkZero commission alongside forex, which matters if you trade gold in size.
The absences are the usual CFD absences and they are worth stating plainly. No listed options, no exchange-traded futures, no bonds, no mutual funds, no fractional shares, and no share ownership of any kind. A ThinkMarkets position in Tesla is a contract with ThinkMarkets over the price of Tesla. You get the price move and a dividend adjustment; you do not get the security, you have no voting rights, and nothing can be transferred to another broker.
For a directional short-horizon trader, none of that matters. For anyone building a holding that should outlive the broker relationship, all of it does.
Account opening and funding
Onboarding is fully digital and usually completes within a business day. You supply an identity document and proof of address, answer an appropriateness questionnaire about your trading experience, and declare source of funds. Under FCA, CySEC and ASIC rules that questionnaire is a real gate rather than a formality - answer it honestly, because failing it means refusal rather than a downgrade to a safer product.
The Standard account has no minimum deposit, so you can size a live account wherever you want. ThinkZero opens from USD 100, which puts raw-spread pricing within reach of a small account rather than reserving it for funded traders.
Seven base currencies are available - USD, EUR, GBP, AUD, CHF, SGD and NZD - which is broad, and matters more than it sounds. A Swiss or Singaporean client holding a CHF or SGD account avoids a conversion round trip on every deposit and withdrawal, and ThinkMarkets does not publish a conversion percentage, so avoiding the conversion entirely is the only way to be sure what it costs.
Funding covers bank transfer and SEPA, Visa and Mastercard debit and credit, PayPal, Skrill, Neteller, Apple Pay, Google Pay and crypto rails, depending on region. Cards and e-wallets credit instantly; bank transfers take one to three business days. Deposits are free except PayPal in Australia at 2.5 percent.
Withdrawals are where the process gets uncomfortable. ThinkMarkets states it processes requests within 24 hours, after which funds take one to seven business days to arrive. Public review sites tell a less tidy story: repeated document requests on accounts that were already verified, holds running past a week, and disputed cases where a payment was marked successful and the client says it never landed. That pattern is not universal - the Trustpilot average sits around 4.3 out of 5 across roughly 645 reviews - but it is consistent enough to be the single biggest reservation we have about this broker. A USD 100 minimum withdrawal does not help.
Research and education
Research is competent and mid-table. ThinkMarkets publishes daily and weekly market commentary, maintains an economic calendar, and layers third-party analytics onto the platforms - pattern recognition, sentiment data and news integration inside ThinkTrader and MetaTrader. The written analysis is readable and reasonably frequent, but it is not the product of a large in-house analyst desk, and a macro trader who wants a proper morning note with a view will find thinner gruel here than at the research-led brokers.
Education is middling in a way that is easy to describe: there is a reasonable library of articles, videos and webinars covering leverage, order types, risk management and platform mechanics, and there is a free unlimited demo account that mirrors live pricing. What there is not is a structured curriculum with a graded path, progress tracking, assessments or a beginner-to-competent route that someone new to leveraged products could follow end to end. It is a reference library rather than a school.
That matters because of the number at the top of the page. Seventy-five percent of ThinkMarkets UK retail accounts lose money trading CFDs, and disclosures across the group's entities have ranged from roughly 68 percent to 89 percent. Those are not outlier figures for the category - the FCA-regulated average sits near 70 percent - but they should frame how you use the education. The demo account is the important part of the offer here: leverage mechanics, margin calls and the effect of an overnight gap are things to learn with virtual money, not with a funded account and a hopeful position.
ThinkCopy and ZuluTrade deserve a warning in the same section. Copy trading is marketed as a shortcut past the learning curve. It is not. It transfers the decision, not the risk.
Customer support
Support runs 24 hours a day, five days a week for clients of the FCA and ASIC entities, across telephone, email and live chat, with multilingual coverage including English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Chinese, Arabic, Japanese and Thai. For routine work - platform questions, account administration, how a swap is calculated on a given instrument - the desk is responsive and competent, and live chat is the fastest route.
The reputation splits sharply depending on what you are asking for. General service draws solid marks, and the Trustpilot average of roughly 4.3 out of 5 across around 645 reviews is respectable for a CFD broker. Withdrawal-related contact is a different experience in a meaningful minority of reports: clients describe being asked for documents they had already supplied on a verified account, holds extending past a week, and in a handful of disputed cases a withdrawal marked successful in the platform that the client says never arrived at the bank.
We have not independently verified individual complaints, and every broker of this size accumulates them. What raises this above noise is the consistency of the theme - it is the same friction described repeatedly, rather than scattered one-off grievances. If you open an account here, complete verification fully before you deposit, keep copies of every document you send, and test a small withdrawal early rather than discovering the process for the first time when it matters.
There is no dedicated relationship manager at ordinary account sizes. For most clients, live chat during a London or Sydney session is the practical route, and anything involving money movement is worth putting in writing by email so you have a record.
Frequently asked questions
ThinkZero, for almost anyone trading regularly. ThinkZero gives you raw spreads from 0.0 pips on EUR/USD - measured around 0.11 pips on average - plus USD 3.50 per lot per side on forex and metals, an all-in cost of roughly 0.8 pips. Standard charges no commission but averages around 1.1 pips on EUR/USD. On forex and metals ThinkZero wins at any volume. The entry ticket is barely a hurdle: ThinkZero opens from USD 100, against no minimum at all on Standard.
ThinkMarkets holds six licences we could verify. UK clients contract with TF Global Markets (UK) Ltd, which trades as ThinkMarkets, under FCA firm reference 629628, covered by the FSCS up to GBP 85,000. EU clients contract with TF Global Markets (Europe) Ltd under CySEC 215/13, with Investor Compensation Fund cover of 90 percent of a claim up to EUR 20,000. Australian clients face TF Global Markets (Aust) Pty Ltd under ASIC AFSL 424700, where no statutory compensation scheme exists. There are also JFSA registration 0250 in Japan, FSCA FSP 49835 in South Africa and Seychelles FSA SD060 offshore. Read the entity named in your client agreement, because the protection you get belongs to the entity, not to the brand.
The recurring pattern in public reviews is friction rather than refusal: repeated document requests on accounts that had already passed verification, holds running past a week, and a smaller number of disputed cases where a withdrawal was marked successful in the platform but the client says it never reached their bank. ThinkMarkets states it processes requests within 24 hours, with one to seven business days for funds to arrive, and there is a USD 100 minimum withdrawal. The overall Trustpilot average of around 4.3 out of 5 shows most clients are not affected, but the theme is consistent enough that we would complete verification fully and test a small withdrawal early.
On the UK entity, yes. TF Global Markets (UK) Ltd, FCA firm reference 629628, treats an account as dormant after 180 consecutive calendar days without trading activity and charges GBP 10 per month from day 181. It is only taken while the balance is positive, you are notified before the first charge, and it stops once the balance reaches zero or the account is deactivated at your request. The CySEC, ASIC and offshore entities publish no equivalent figure we could verify, so check the schedule attached to the entity named in your client agreement, and withdraw the balance if you plan to stop trading.
No. Every instrument is a contract for difference, including the roughly 2,700 share CFDs and 321 ETF CFDs. You get the price movement and a cash adjustment when the underlying pays a dividend, but you do not hold the security, you have no voting rights, and the position cannot be transferred to another broker. If you want shares registered in your name, you need a custody broker rather than a CFD provider.
75 percent of retail investor accounts lose money trading CFDs with ThinkMarkets, according to the disclosure in its UK legal documents. Figures published by other entities and in other reporting periods have ranged from roughly 68 percent to 89 percent, because the disclosure is recalculated periodically and differs by entity. For context, the average across FCA-regulated CFD brokers sits near 70 percent. Read the risk warning on the specific page you open an account from, and treat it as the base rate your own trading has to beat.
