Our verdict
Webull is the right broker for the self-directed US trader who wants professional tooling without paying commissions, and who expects to solve problems without calling anyone. The desktop terminal, the options chain and the paper-trading environment are better than the price suggests, and the fixed-income and futures desks give the account somewhere to grow. It is the wrong broker if service quality matters to you — Trustpilot ratings sit around 1.3–1.4 out of 5, with recurring complaints about transfers and unreachable support — or if you want cheap crypto, where the 1% spread per side is far above dedicated exchanges. European and UK investors should also read the fine print: the FCA-authorised UK entity acts as agent and the account itself is opened with the Australian entity, and the Dutch entity is about a year into its retail launch. If you are buying a handful of index funds a year, a plain custody bank will annoy you less.

Pros & cons
Pros
7- USD 0 commission on US-listed stocks, ETFs and equity options, with no per-contract fee — index options are the only equity-derivative exception at USD 0.50 per contract
- A real desktop terminal for Windows, macOS and Linux, with multi-monitor layouts, depth-of-market and a script editor — rare at this price point
- Publicly listed on Nasdaq as BULL since April 2025, so financials and risk disclosures are in the public record
- Free paper trading with the same charts and order tickets as the live account, which makes the options approval process much less punitive
- Futures on CME and Coinbase Derivatives at a reported USD 1.25 per side (E-mini) and USD 0.25 per side (micro), plus fixed income at a 0.1% principal mark-up
- Six top-tier licences across the group — SEC/FINRA, CFTC/NFA, FCA, ASIC, MAS and the Dutch AFM
- No account maintenance fee and no minimum deposit; ACH in and out is free
Cons
6- Customer support is the standing complaint: Trustpilot sits at roughly 1.3–1.4 out of 5, with transfers and account access the most common themes
- Crypto costs a 1% spread on each side — about 2% round trip — which is expensive next to a dedicated exchange
- Margin rates are not published on the public pricing page and start around 8.74% at the standard tier, well above brokers such as Public.com
- USD 75 to transfer your securities out, and 1.75% to withdraw to a debit card
- A 2023 FINRA settlement over options-approval due diligence and complaint handling is on the record
- No spot forex, no CFDs, no traditional mutual fund supermarket, and non-US clients get a materially different product depending on which entity they land in

Full review: Webull
Fees and what they cost in practice
Webull's headline is simple: USD 0 commission on US-listed stocks, ETFs and equity options, with no per-contract options fee. A 20-contract vertical spread costs nothing in commission — you pay only the regulatory pass-throughs (OCC clearing at USD 0.02 per contract capped at USD 55, the Options Regulatory Fee, and CAT). Index options are the exception at USD 0.50 per contract, and orders of 500 contracts or more add USD 0.10 per contract on the Held route or USD 0.04 on the algo route.
Where it stops being free:
- Crypto carries a 1% spread on each side of the trade. Buy and sell USD 5,000 of BTC and you have paid roughly USD 100 in spread — several times what a dedicated exchange charges. Stablecoins are exempt.
- Margin is the quiet cost. Webull does not publish the tier table on its pricing page; secondary sources put the standard rate near 8.74% per annum, tiering down to roughly 4.74% on multi-million-dollar balances, with about 5.75% for Premium subscribers. If you carry a balance, that gap matters far more than commissions.
- Leaving costs USD 75 per outgoing stock transfer, plus USD 25 for a domestic wire or USD 45 internationally.
- Webull Premium is USD 3.99 per month or USD 40 per year and buys Level 2 data, index-option discounts, futures commission discounts, better margin tiers and IRA matching.
Fixed income is priced as a 0.1% mark-up on principal for Treasuries and 0.1% with a USD 10 minimum for corporate bonds. There is no maintenance fee and no minimum deposit. A dormant account is not necessarily free, though: Webull's customer relationship summary (Form CRS) states that certain accounts are charged fees after prolonged periods of inactivity, and the current fee schedule gives neither the amount nor the conditions.
Safety and regulation
Securities trading is provided by Webull Financial LLC, an SEC-registered broker-dealer (CRD #289063) and member of FINRA, SIPC, NYSE, Nasdaq and Cboe EDGX. SIPC covers USD 500,000 per customer including a USD 250,000 cash sub-limit. The excess coverage on top depends on how the account is cleared: for accounts in the omnibus clearing relationship with Apex Clearing, which is the arrangement Webull Financial's customer agreement describes, Webull carries its own excess-SIPC policy with underwriters at Lloyd's of London, up to USD 100 million aggregate with a maximum of USD 1,900,000 for any one customer's cash and no per-account sublimit on securities; for accounts fully disclosed to Apex, Apex's own policy applies, at up to USD 150 million aggregate with per-customer limits of USD 37.5 million in securities and USD 900,000 in cash. This protects you if the broker fails — it does nothing about a losing trade.
Futures sit in a separate entity, Webull Futures LLC, a CFTC-registered FCM and NFA member, and Webull states explicitly that futures accounts are not SIPC-protected. Crypto runs through Webull Pay LLC (NMLS 1886762) with Bakkt Crypto Solutions as a service provider, and is neither FDIC- nor SIPC-insured.
The strongest structural signal is the public listing: Webull Corporation has traded on Nasdaq as BULL since 11 April 2025, following a merger with SK Growth Opportunities Corporation, which puts audited financials and risk factors into the public record. Internationally the group holds FCA authorisation (Webull Securities (UK) Limited, FRN 961286), an ASIC licence (AFSL 536980), an MAS licence in Singapore and an AFM investment-firm authorisation in the Netherlands granted on 26 September 2024. Read the UK structure carefully: Webull UK is FCA-authorised but acts as your agent, with the account itself opened at the Australian entity. On the debit side, a 2023 FINRA settlement covering options-approval due diligence and complaint handling is part of the record.
Trading platforms
This is the part Webull actually competes on. Webull Desktop ships for Windows, macOS and Linux and behaves like a terminal rather than a dressed-up web page: detachable multi-monitor layouts, depth-of-market, a long indicator library, conditional and bracket orders, a script editor for custom studies, and options chains with strategy builders and a P&L visualiser. Nothing else in the zero-commission bracket ships a Linux build.
The mobile app is the product most users meet first, and it is unusually complete — full option chains, multi-leg tickets, drawing tools and screeners on a phone screen, rated 4.7 on the App Store and 4.6 on Google Play. The web client covers most of the same ground for people who do not want an install.
Two extras are worth calling out. Paper trading uses the same charts and order tickets as the live account, and it is free and unlimited — genuinely useful for rehearsing multi-leg options before you have the approval level to place them. And Webull OpenAPI exposes REST and streaming endpoints for automated strategies, with a TradingView integration for people who prefer to trade from TradingView charts.
The honest caveat: the interface is dense, and the defaults assume you know what a bid-ask spread and a Greeks column are. Beginners will find the first hour intimidating.
Markets and products
For a US client the tradable universe is US stocks and ETFs, fractional shares, US equity and index options, futures, crypto, fixed income and money market funds, plus IRAs and Webull Advisors managed portfolios. Futures cover CME equity index, FX, metals, energy, interest rate and agricultural contracts, plus CME and Coinbase Derivatives crypto futures, in both standard and micro sizes.
What is missing is as informative as what is there. There is no spot forex, no CFDs, no spread betting and no traditional mutual fund supermarket, and a US Webull account does not give you direct access to European or Asian exchanges. If you want to buy a Frankfurt- or London-listed line, you are buying an ADR or you are at the wrong broker.
The group operates across roughly fourteen markets — the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong SAR, Japan, the Netherlands, South Africa, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Brazil and Mexico — but the product differs sharply between them. The UK entity added a flexible Stocks and Shares ISA in April 2026 and removed commission on US and Hong Kong shares; the Dutch entity launched in September 2025 with European and US equities, fractional shares, European ETFs and US options, and received MiCAR approval in July 2026 to add regulated crypto services. Do not assume a review of the US product describes what you will get in Amsterdam or London.
Account opening and funding
Opening is fully digital and fast. A US applicant supplies identity details and a Social Security number, answers the suitability and options-approval questions, and is usually approved the same day; funding by ACH typically lands within one to three business days, and Webull advances a portion instantly for trading in many cases. There is no minimum deposit — the only balance requirement is the regulatory USD 2,000 minimum equity for a margin account.
Funding is deliberately narrow and mostly free:
- ACH in and out: USD 0, with a USD 5 fee if a transfer is returned or reversed
- US debit card deposit: USD 0; debit-card withdrawal costs 1.75% of the amount
- Domestic wire: USD 8 in, USD 25 out
- International wire: USD 12.50 in, USD 45 out
The US account is USD-only. There is no multi-currency wallet, no card funding beyond US debit, and no PayPal or e-wallet route. Transferring an existing portfolio in is free; transferring it out costs USD 75, which is the standard Apex ACAT charge but still a real switching cost.
Options approval is tiered, and Webull has tightened its process since the 2023 FINRA settlement — expect more questions about experience before you get spreads or naked writing enabled.
Research and education
Research is functional rather than distinctive. You get consolidated news feeds, analyst ratings and price targets, earnings calendars, financial statements, a stock screener with a wide filter set, an options-flow and unusual-activity view, and heat maps. Level 2 market data — Nasdaq TotalView depth — is a Webull Premium feature at USD 3.99 per month rather than a free inclusion, which is worth noting because moomoo gives comparable depth away.
What Webull does not have is an in-house research desk. There is no proprietary equity research, no analyst notes written by Webull, and no third-party research bundle of the kind full-service brokers include. If you want someone else's investment thesis, you will be reading it somewhere else and executing here.
Education is aimed squarely at the newer active trader: Webull Learn covers order types, options basics and the mechanics of margin, backed by webinars and a community feed. It is competent and free, but it is not deep — there is no structured curriculum, no certification path, and nothing comparable to the multi-hour options courses at the larger US brokers. The genuinely valuable learning tool is paper trading, which lets you make expensive mistakes with fake money on the same interface you will use live. Used deliberately, it is worth more than the article library.
Customer support
This is where the product falls down, and it would be dishonest to soften it. Webull offers 24/7 in-app chat, email at support@webull.com and a US phone line on +1 (888) 828-0618, with English and Chinese coverage. On paper that is a reasonable spread of channels.
In practice, Trustpilot rates Webull Financial around 1.3–1.4 out of 5, and the complaint themes are consistent rather than random: difficulty reaching a human, slow resolution on transfers in and out, and account-access or verification issues that stall for days. The contrast with the app-store ratings — 4.7 on iOS, 4.6 on Android — tells you the real story: people like the software and struggle with the service organisation behind it.
That asymmetry should shape who chooses Webull. If your interactions are limited to placing trades and funding by ACH, you may never touch support and the platform quality dominates. If you expect to move a large portfolio in, run a complex corporate action, deal with an inherited account, or resolve a tax-document problem quickly, budget for friction. Traders who need a responsive service desk are better served by a broker that charges for it.
Practical mitigation: keep a second brokerage relationship open, document ticket numbers, and start any transfer well before a deadline.
Frequently asked questions
Commissions on US stocks, ETFs and equity options are genuinely USD 0 — Webull states this openly on its pricing page and explains that it earns from stock loan, interest on free credit balances, margin interest and payment for order flow. The costs that do reach you are the 1% crypto spread on each side, the USD 0.50 index-option contract fee, margin interest, and exit charges such as the USD 75 outgoing transfer fee. For a cash-account equity trader, the account really can cost nothing to run.
Webull Financial LLC is SEC-registered and a member of FINRA and SIPC, so securities accounts are covered for USD 500,000 including a USD 250,000 cash sub-limit, with excess-SIPC coverage on top: Webull's own policy for accounts in the omnibus clearing relationship with Apex, and Apex's policy for accounts fully disclosed to Apex. Client assets are held separately from Webull's own. Two carve-outs matter: futures accounts at Webull Futures LLC are not SIPC-protected, and crypto held via Webull Pay/Bakkt is neither FDIC- nor SIPC-insured. None of this protects you against losing money on a trade, and no broker can be described as guaranteed safe.
Not yet as a local offering. Webull's EU entity, Webull Securities (Europe) B.V., is authorised by the Dutch AFM and launched to retail investors in the Netherlands in September 2025, with stated plans to add further EU countries but no published timeline. The UK is served by Webull Securities (UK) Limited (FRN 961286), which added a flexible Stocks and Shares ISA in April 2026. DACH residents should check current eligibility directly with Webull rather than assuming the US or Dutch product applies.
Premium costs USD 3.99 per month or USD 40 per year. It bundles Level 2 (Nasdaq TotalView) market depth, discounted index-option and futures commissions, access to lower margin tiers, and matching on IRA transfers and contributions. If you trade index options or carry a margin balance regularly, the subscription usually pays for itself; if you buy and hold a handful of ETFs, it does not.
The split reflects two different experiences. App-store reviewers are rating the software — charts, options chains, speed — and give it 4.6–4.7. Trustpilot reviewers are usually people who needed something from support: a stuck transfer, a locked account, a document. That queue is where Webull underperforms, and the roughly 1.3–1.4 out of 5 score reflects it. Judge the platform on the app ratings and the service on Trustpilot; both are telling the truth about different things.
They live in linked but legally separate accounts. Options trade through Webull Financial LLC and require tiered approval based on your stated experience. Futures trade through Webull Futures LLC, a CFTC-registered FCM and NFA member, which means a separate application, separate margin rules and no SIPC protection on that balance. Both are reachable from the same app, but treat them as two accounts for risk and protection purposes.
